Flooding has been and continues to be a significant challenge facing the people here and all around the world. Despite numerous multi-million dollar urban and rural infrastructure projects targeting this issue, the widespread flooding of urban streets and homes in the cities and agricultural lands in rural areas doesn’t appear to be able to be resolved anytime soon. Added to this fact is the impact of climate change which is projected to worsen this already big problem facing people globally.

What is needed is a separate and complementary way in which one goes about solving this problem. This approach focuses on managing the impact of the micro-circumstances that is created by flooding. Whereas large scale infrastructure projects try to resolve this problem in ways that is intended to alleviate the issue for the masses, the significant urban planning and disruptions needed entail long-term and costly investments for which the fruits might not be realised as quickly as the solution is needed. Furthermore, large scale projects even when undertaken in good faith, remains but a blunt instrument that most often leave pockets of people still unable to benefit. The latter alone justify putting in efforts to come up with alternatives, not least for those who might still not stand to gain even if available projects are immensely successful for the majority.

The solution points towards designing and developing of very affordable devices that aims to counteract the physical effects of flooding within the person’s immediate settings. This immediate setting would most typically refer to one’s home or lodging of sorts or the vehicle in which one is using for commuting. Some immediate ideas that come to mind maybe “Water barriers for Houses” or “Waterproof covers for Motorbikes”. While this author does not claim to have the required credentials to assess the feasibility of these ideas or projects, the potential for innovation in this area in alleviating the problems facing many people all around the world might mean that it is worthwhile for those who have the expertise to consider exploring the aforementioned approach for solutions.
