One year ago i started out with an idea to build something that can be used to help anyone who is looking to create stuff to solve a problem for which they find personally meaningful. I envision that technology and the mastery of technology is the best and most tangible instrument that individuals and communities can have to overcome their unique challenges. With this in mind, I set out trying to develop and build on my own a web platform (which I later came to name “Create.”), intending it to be for them a place to learn about technology and also hopefully in the process to realise its enabling capacity for helping people to overcome the problems that they face.

The issue with this idea then is of course that to do all this on my own, I would need programming and web development skills which I do not possess at that time. I thought to myself that I can always hire a professional to do the job. But then doing that would mean defeating the idea of mastering technology to solve one’s own problems which is at the heart of what I am trying to achieve. So I undertook to move to Vietnam and started to learn coding and web design on my own whilst there. One year down the road, this website is the culmination of all my learning and efforts in the pursuit of this vision.

I believe that there is this innate capacity in all of us to create. It is something that we inherited from our ancestors that forms part of why we are the most successful species on the planet. The organisation of modern life and society seems to have suppressed this need in us (except for a small group of people). But now, more than ever, I believe there is a greater need for us to rediscover our innate desire to create and finding a way for ourselves. I hope this website will be a helpful companion when you decide to undertake this journey again.
